Merle Boes died January 20, 2017 following a short illness. He was born Feb. 16, 1929 to Bert and Bernice Boes.

Merle founded Merle Boes Inc. in 1975. Previously he was an agent for the Standard Oil Company.

Merle and his wife Alyda loved to travel throughout the United States and other countries. They shared a passion for the mission church in Hungary and Ukraine, visiting five times.

He was a former member of Bethel Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder as well as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. He is a member of Trinity Reformed Church where he is active in the seniors group. While wintering in Bradenton Florida, he attended Bayshore Gardens Church where he was an active member of the choir.

Merle is survived by his wife Alyda of 67 years, his children Susan (Bill) Becksvoort, Pat (Larry) Boonstra, Mike (Sheryl) Boes; grandchildren, Chad Becksvoort, Jami (Eric) Alferink, Tyler Boonstra, Bryce Boonstra, Allison (Ben) Attema, Lindsay Boes and fiancé Grant Geurink, Mallory Boes; sister, Phyllis (John) DeGraaf; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Van Liere of Colorado; brother-in-law, Henry (Elaine) Weller and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Merle will be Monday January 23, from 6-8pm at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel 188 W 32nd Street Holland.

Funeral service will be Tuesday January 24 11:00am at Trinity Reformed Church, 712 Apple Ave, Holland with Rev. Chris DeGraaf and Rev. Deb Yurk officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior.
