Mary Van Denend, age 77 of Holland, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Hillebrand VanDenend, daughter and son-in-law Sara and Josh Perry, son and daughter-in-law Jon and Michelle VanDenend, grandchildren Jackson Perry and Greta and Layton VanDenend, sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Art Bolt, and several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.

Mary graduated from Timothy Christian High School in Cicero, Il. She attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI where she received a B.A. in Education. She began her teaching career at Rose Park Elementary in Holland, MI. After starting a family, Mary continued her work as church secretary at Harderwyk Christian Reformed Church and retired after 25 years of service.

Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed having them over for Sunday dinners and holidays. She loved to bake and gifted everyone she loved with these sweets. Mary adored her grandchildren and attended

many of their activities. She was a member of Harderwyk CRC and participated in book club, mentored Kids Hope students, volunteered with Neighbors Plus and other charitable events. Mary’s passion was to sing. She was a member of Lake Effect and The Holland Chorale, as well as church choirs throughout her life. She and Hill loved to travel and Europe was her favorite.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Sophie (DeBoer) Buurma and her son James (Jimmy) VanDenend.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Friday (May 27) at Harderwyk Ministries, 1627 West Lakewood Blvd., with Rev. Mary De Witt officiating. http://www.harderwyk.com/maryvandenend

Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-8 pm Thursday (May 26) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue.
