Mark A. Van Ess age 62 of Hudsonville died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 following a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Mark graduated from Lake Worth High School and moved to the Grand Rapids area in 1975. He started his roofing business, “Van Ess Roofing” in 1987.

Mark was a member of Evergreen Ministeries in Hudsonville. He loved his church and teaching children, playing and writing music and most especially his family.

Mark is preceded in death by his father Robert Van Ess, In-laws; Gordon and Elsie De Vries, Bob De Vries and Jack Bell.

He is survived by his wife Sally De Vries Van Ess and children;Jessica Van Ess and Martin Jones of Ridgeland, S.C., Elyse Van Ess of Hudsonville, mother, Gwendoline Van Ess, brothers and sisters; Phil (Jeanne) Van Ess, Karen (George) Olthoff, Brian Van Ess and Stephen Eisenhart, Robert (Sue) Van Ess; brother and sister in-laws; Carol De Vries , Joan (Bob) Overweg, Jim (Mary) De Vries, Lenora Bell and Dave (Diana) De Vries as well as several nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held Sat. 6:00PM at Evergreen Ministeries, 4512 48th Ave. Hudsonville with Pastor Tom Kragt officiating. Friends may call on the family Saturday 5:00 to 6:00 prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make donations to: Human Brain and Spinal Cord Research Center or De Vos Children’s Hospital Cancer Program. Arrangements are by the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 295 Douglas Ave.Holland.
