Mrs. Marian Frances Smith, age 100, of Holland, went to her eternal home on August 4, 2025.

Marian was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on September 6, 1924, to Frank and Christine (DeWitt) Mastenbrook.

She was a graduate of Hope College (1946) and received her Masters Degree from the University of Illinois Library School.

Marian married John Marvin Smith in 1949. Together they served Reformed churches in Melvin, Iowa (1952-1961), Newkirk, Iowa (1961-1971), and Baileyville, Illinois (1971-1988). They retired in Holland, Michigan, in 1989. She worked at the Hope College Library, Western Theological Seminary Library, and the Northwestern College Library. She also served as a substitute teacher for many years. John passed away on March 20, 2010.

Marian is survived by her three children: Paul & Loretta and their children: Emilie & Amber; Geoffrey & Claire (Asher & Alden); Tom & Peg and their children: Christianne & James (David & Catelynn), Nathan & Johanna; and Beth. She is also survived by her sister, Judy Mastenbrook. In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Doorn.

The family would like to thank Evergreen Commons Day Center and Corewell Health Hospice for all the care and support they gave her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am Saturday, August 9, 2025, in the Chapel of Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd. Holland, MI 49423 (use Entrance D), with the Rev. Bill Boersma presiding. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service.

A private family burial will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Kalamazoo at a later date.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made in Marian's name to Evergreen Day Center, Corewell Health Hospice, and Christ Memorial Church.
