We are sad to announce the death of our lovely mother, Maria Amparo Martinez. She went to her heavenly home on December 15, 2022 at the age of 91, surrounded by her children and family. She was born in Villa de Guadalupito, San Luis Potosí, Mexico on January 21,1931 and later settled in southwest Michigan with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesus Martinez, three brothers, Juan Martinez, Pablo Martinez, and David Martinez, two sisters, Amalia Garcia and Carmela Gutierrez, her two sons, Rolando and Roberto Martinez, granddaughter, Sabrina Belen Tuleja, and a niece, Margarita Salinas.

Amparo is survived by two brothers, Severo Martinez and Francisco Martinez, her children, Pablo (Mary) Martinez, Jesus (Odalis) Martinez, Gustavo “Beny” Martinez, Maria Guadalupe Treviño (Joel Shoemaker), Noel (Erika) Martinez, Mary (James) Hughes, Elba “Nikki” Martinez, Yesenia Martinez (Dan Tuleja), Svetlana Martinez (Chip Buter), and daughter in-law, Janie Martinez. Twenty-Two grandchildren, Thirty-One great grandchildren, Four great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Our mother expressed her love for all, through her love of cooking. Her visitors never left her home hungry. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, and gardening. Mom was at her happiest when she was visited by her grandchildren, whom she adored. Mom believed the secret to a long happy life was having friends and she was blessed with many.
