Life Story / Obituary


Margery Hope Host, 73, of McMillan, died suddenly Tuesday evening March 22, 2016.

Born January 27, 1943 in Hamilton, daughter of the late Arnold and Catherine (Dykens) Datema, Margery was a 1961 graduate of Holland High School. She pursued a course of study for United Methodist pastoral ship and served as Pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iron River, Springville United Methodist Church in Onsted and Escanaba First United Methodist Church in Escanaba. While in Escanaba, Margery also served as a hospice chaplain at St. Francis Hospital.

A resident of the Curtis and McMillan area for the past 25 years, she was a member of the Germfask United Methodist Church. She enjoyed bird watching, camping and traveling. One accomplishment she was proud of was receiving her pilot's license soloing a single engine Cessna 150. Margery truly loved life, her family and serving others.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband Jerry Lee Coffman Sr., siblings Arnold and Carol Datema, Robert Datema and brother-in-law Doug McClurken.

Survivors include her loving husband, Kenneth of McMillan, whom she married May 5, 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Holland; children Kentrina (Phil) Arnold of Augusta, GA, Marsha Gibson of Avery, GA, Catherine (Todd) Telgenhof of West Olive, Jerry L. Coffman Jr. of Lyons and Clint (Becky) Coffman of Hudsonville; grandchildren Liz (Artie), Jay (Ashley), Kaitlyn (Travis), Kyle, Josh, Ericka, Jerry Lee (Dawn), Andrew, Amber, Laura (Matthew), and Nicholas; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sister Kathy McClurken of Sand Lake, and sister-in-law, Audrey Datema of Bremmerton, WA.

A continuation of the Celebration of Life will also take place Saturday April 2, 2016 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church, 57 West 10th Street in Holland, with Mr. David Newton officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately the services at the church. Friends may call the Dykstra Funeral Home-Downtown Chapel, 29 East 9th Street, Friday April 1, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Interment will take place at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the Germfask United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church in Holland or the donor's choice in her memory.
