Life Story / Obituary
Lucy Sowers, age 96, of Holland, passed away, Friday, March 30, 2018. Mrs. Sowers was born in Leeds, North Dakota, on January 20th, 1922. She then spent her childhood years in Carrington, North Dakota, and she graduated from Carrington High School. Lucy met her husband Leonard Sowers, while working at the Pentagon in the 1940's. Leonard and Lucy were wed in 1946 in Washington D.C. The family moved to Holland in the 1950's. Mrs. Sowers worked at Holland Furnace Company and later she worked at Chris Craft. Mrs. Sowers was a homemaker after her time at Chris Craft. Later in life she stayed involved volunteering and participating in events at The Commons of Evergreen in Holland. Lucy was a long time member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Holland.
Mrs. Sowers was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1995. She is survived by her sons; Leonard Sowers Jr. of Holland and Jeffrey Sowers of Lansing; grandchildren, Aaron Sowers and Lindsay Sowers.
A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00A.M., Wednesday, April 4, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 171 West 13th Street, Holland. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, from 5:00 to 8:00P.M. at the Dykstra Funeral Home - Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street, Holland. Father Mike Danner will celebrate the mass. Interment at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Holland. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Holland, 171 West 13th Street, Holland or the American Cancer Society, American Cancer Society P.O.
