Loren (Lee) E. Howard, Jr., passed away August 24th, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Elsie, three children, 6 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Loren was born in Robinson, IL., on August 26th, 1920. After graduating from high school in Beaverton, MI., he attended Michigan Technological University, graduating with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. Upon graduation,Loren took off his cap and gown and donned his U.S. Army 2nd Lieutenant's hat and headed off to World War ll, spending his time in the Army Engineering Corps building roads and bridges. The most memorable moment while serving in the Army was meeting Elsa Hansen, an Army nurse, at the Algiers Officer's Club in northern Africa. They married on June 4th, 1944 in Caserta, Italy. Loren's advice later in life would be, with a smile, "marry a nurse"! After World War ll ended, Loren and Elsie moved to Detroit for a short period before moving to Holland in 1950. Loren worked for two small Holland firms as an engineer, finishing his career with Cannon- Muskegon from which he retired in 1987. In his retirement, Loren enjoyed golf and was a fervent Hope College sports fan. The Howard family would like to thank Resthaven of Holland, Providence of Zeeland, and Hospice of Holland for their unconditional and never ending support. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Please acknowledge Loren's life and commitment to the Holland community with donations to Hospice of Holland.
