Lonnie Campbell, 77, of Holland, Michigan, passed away on January 23, 2026. He was born on September 10, 1948, in Hyden, Kentucky, and later moved to Hamilton, where he grew up and attended Garfield High School.

Lonnie had a lifelong love for baseball. At just 17 years old, he coached a baseball team that went all the way to the state championships, something he remained always proud of. Baseball stayed close to his heart throughout his life coaching many more teams throughout his life, along with fishing, especially time spent fishing with his son.

Lonnie enjoyed fast cars, with his favorite being his candy apple red, convertible 1967 Ford Galaxie with a 7-liter engine. Lonnie was dedicated to weightlifting and was one of only two members of the 400-plus weight club, a testament to his strength and discipline.

A homebody at heart, Lonnie was known as a hardworking man who always provided for his family. Above all, he was a loving husband to his wife, Jacqui, and a steady presence to those who knew him.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Campbell; his two sons, Robert Ray (Billie Jo) Campbell; and John Lee Campbell. His two brothers, Eugene Brown (Sheila) Campbell and Michael Dean (Sherry) Campbell, and Donna Campbell with her husband Doug Bock;

He was preceded in death by his parents; Waldon and Verna Campbell, and his sister, Patricia Campbell.

Footprints in the Sand -

‘One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.

Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.

Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,

other times there were one set of footprints.

This bothered me because I noticed

that during the low periods of my life,

when I was suffering from

anguish, sorrow or defeat,

I could see only one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,

‘You promised me Lord,

that if I followed you,

you would walk with me always.

But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life

there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.

Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?’

The Lord replied,

‘The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,

is when I carried you.’

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street, Holland, Michigan, 49423.

A procession will follow to North Holland Cemetery for a graveside service.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.
