Lewis Wayne Hopkins Sr., age 76, of Saugatuck, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021.
Mr. Hopkins was born on June 25, 1945 in Holland, Michigan to William “Harry” Hopkins and Grace Nettie Brown. Mr. Hopkins grew up north of Holland on the family farm. By the age of 3 he was working the fields and milking cows. A solid work ethic was instilled in him at an early age. Throughout his lifetime Mr. Lewis worked on fishing boats and tugboats, drove trucks, worked as a fabricator as a welder, as well as, drilling wells for a living. On the road as a truck driver Lewis would always say, "and we are off like a herd of turtles" but driving slow was never his style. Even after several retirements he ran an auto garage out of his poll barn and was always willing to help anyone, rain or shine, often for nothing more than a thank you. Mr. Hopkins also enjoyed riding motorcycles, collecting guns and going fishing. He had a heart for people and a gregarious personality. Mr. Hopkins had a heart for animals, especially dogs. Mr. Lewis Wayne Hopkins was loved by all who knew him and he will truly be missed.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his; children, Bobby Donald, Lewis Jr., Jessica and Tina; grandchildren, Ben, Hunter, Elizabeth, Bobby Jr., Sammy, Bryan and Autumn Lynn, Shawn, Johnathan, Brittany, Jodi Lynn, Kevin, Timothy, Bryton, Brett, Phillip; former spouse, Bev Bonita.
Lewis was predeceased by his significant other of 19 years, Lola Lawson; former wife Sharon McCormick; daughter Mary; granddaughter, Brittany Shea; siblings, Ivah Jean, Frankie, Roger, Dale and baby Merle.
A funeral ceremony will be held on Monday December 20, at 2:00pm, at the Saugatuck Chapel, 520 Lake Street, Saugatuck, Michigan. Father Cori Stoppel presiding. Interment will be in Douglas Cemetery.
