Karl Elzinga

Karl Elzinga, 48, of Zeeland, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, in Holland Hospital from cancer. Born in Zeeland, he graduated from Zeeland High School, Hope College and Kendall School of Design, and did postgraduate work at the University of Houston. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Zeeland, where he taught Sunday school. He was involved with Little League baseball in Zeeland and had worked for GMB Architects and Engineers. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary; children, Stewart Elzinga, Patrick Elzinga, Andrew Elzinga and Erin Elzinga; parents, Peter and Marilyn Elzinga of Zeeland; mother-in-law, Ann Stewart of Washington; brothers, Michael and Ruth Elzinga of Grandville, and Randall and Diane Elzinga of Holland; sister, Patricia and Daniel Vanden Heuvel of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Elizabeth and Gene Stewart of Washington; aunts, uncles and cousins. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 246 W. Main St., Zeeland. The Rev. Michael Faris will officiate. Visiting is 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Elzinga Children's Education Fund, C/O Macatawa Bank, 41 N. State Street, Zeeland.
