Karen Kostyla, of Douglas, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025.

Born on December 4, 1968, Karen was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph Kostyla Sr. and Betty Jean Kostyla. She was also preceded in death by her brother, David Alex Kostyla.

Karen is survived by her brother, Joseph Kostyla Jr.; her sister, Laura Jean Durham (Mark Klungle); her niece, Melanie Jean Durham (Tyler Kane); and many special cousins and dear friends who she loved like family.

Karen was the kindest person you could ever meet. With an innocent joy that seemed to come straight from her heart, Karen stood apart in her constant desire to help others—and her infectious laugh could lift anyone’s spirits. She loved God deeply and lived out her faith through service to others. Karen was an active member of Central Wesleyan Church in Holland, Michigan, she volunteered with Youth for Christ, and took part in a meaningful mission trip to Africa. She also adored all dogs, especially her late golden retriever, Lucky.

In lieu of flowers or donations, Karen’s family asks that you honor her memory by completing a random act of kindness, just as she so often did for others.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Douglas, Michigan, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.

Following the graveside service, there will be hors d'oeuvres and a celebration of life for those who wish to attend and share their memories with family.
