Julia Drost, age 103, of Fillmore, peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Resthaven Care Center.

Julia was born on March 12, 1914 in Holland to John and Dena Bruischat. She fondly remembered her days at Hope College High School and was proud to be a graduate of the Class of 1932.

Throughout her life, she had many interests. She was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed reading and reciting poetry. She was a very talented writer and shared that talent with others through notes, letters, and greeting cards for every occasion. She loved to research various subjects, wrote essays, and presented them to her local Questers group, where she was a member for over 20 years. Julia loved crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, and would play Scrabble at every opportunity. Being somewhat housebound for many years, she spent countless hours on the phone with friends and family. Her family was very important to her and she was a lifetime member of Trinity Reformed Church.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Julius, a daughter, Trevah Hartsuiker, son and daughter-in-law, Dallas and Diane Drost, and several siblings.

She is survived by her children, Wes (Betty) Drost, Deanna (Paul) Payne, Bill (Marla) Drost, and Alyce (Paul) Groenvelt; son-in-law, Pete Hartsuiker; 12 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many great great-grandchildren; brother, Jay (“Bob” to family) (Dorothy) Bruischat; several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be 2 pm, Monday (March 27) at the Trinity Reformed Church, 712 Apple Avenue, with the Rev. Chris De Graaf officiating.

Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Sunday (March 26) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or one’s choice.

The family would like to thank Resthaven for their kind and compassionate care over the last two years.
