Julia DeVries, age 94 of Zeeland, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 27. The river was crossed and the gates of Heaven opened as her struggles with dementia ended.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years James (Jim) in 2000, a daughter Linda Lamberts in 2013 and a great-granddaughter Ayva Jo Zuiderveen. She is survived by her children, Bob and Bonnie DeVries of Kalamazoo, Larry and Judy DeVries and Jim and Jill DeVries of Zeeland, son-in-law Jim Lamberts of Holland; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; sister and brother, Myrtle Graveling of Zeeland, Jerry and Myrt DeVries of Holland and sister-in-law Esther DeVries of Zeeland; several nieces and nephews.

Julia was a member of First Reformed Church of Holland and was active in many women’s prayer and Bible study groups. Her hospitality and warm-gentle smile will always be remembered by those who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 30, from 5-8 p.m. at Mulder Chapel of Dykstra Funeral Homes at 188 West 32nd St., Holland. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 31, at First Reformed Church, 630 State St., Holland. Rev. Dr. Daniel N. Gillett and Rev. Darrell Koopmans officiating.

The DeVries family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staff at The Atrium at Royal Park and Providence Healthcare of Zeeland and Hospice of Holland. Their service to Mom in her time of need was exceptional, professional and loving.

Contributions may be made in Julia’s memory to the Organ Fund of First Reformed Church of Holland.
