Jean MacDonald

Jean F. MacDonald, age 90, passed away December 4, 2015.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George Murdock MacDonald (former Chairman of Physical Education and Athletic Director at Grand Valley State University). She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Paul, and by her sister- and brother-in-law, Catherine and Innis MacRitchie.

Jean is survived by her sons, George Mains MacDonald, Neil William (Kate Rieger) MacDonald, Douglas Ray (Nancy) MacDonald; grandchildren, Rachel Jean (Tyler) Weick, Douglas Edward (Meghan) MacDonald, Michael John (Mercedes Martinez) MacDonald, Daniel George MacDonald, and Claire Elizabeth MacDonald, and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was the school secretary at Cummings Elementary School in Grandville, Michigan, and retired in 1988. She was a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Jean will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel; 295 Douglas Ave, Holland, Michigan. A funeral service and interment will take place at a later time in Southampton, Ontario, Canada.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s and George’s memory to the Irwin Athletic Fund at Grand Valley State University.
