Jean Anne Cook, age 81, of West Olive, peacefully passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at her home.

Jean was born and raised in Finland, Minnesota. Though establishing her family in Holland, she always kept strong roots to Finland. She made sure to share stories about our family and heritage. You could always find her in her garden, making beautiful quilts, or working on puzzles or crosswords. She retired from Hart and Cooley after working as an administrative assistant for many years. Muggah or Grandma Gumball, as lovingly called by her grandchildren, was a proud supporter of their successes and saved any newspaper clippings containing those successes. When thinking of words to describe Jean, Sisu, independent, determined, funny, loving and strong are what come to mind. We are so grateful for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Lila Hangartner.

She is survived by her children, Kenneth Cook of Grand Haven, Laurie and Greg Lohstroh of Allendale, and Deb and Jay VanderZwaag of Holland; grandchildren, Renee and Todd Nickoles, Amanda and Zach Bleich, George Lohstroh, Hailey Lohstroh, Maggie and Sarah Burton, Nicole and Zach Harthun, Dani VanderZwaag and Jamie VanderZwaag; great grandchildren, Seth, Ben and Emily Nickoles, McKayla, Jaiden, Myleigh, Marcus and Tristan Bleich, and Joel and Ellary Harthun; sisters, Bette Pounds of Boerne, TX, and Diane and Eric Lindberg of Finland, MN; and nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, January 11, 2019 at Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue in Holland. A memorial service will be held in Finland, Minnesota at a later date. To sign an on-line registry or leave a memory please visit www.dykstrafuneralhome.com
