James M. Brewer, age 97, of Holland finished his journey on earth and went to be with his Lord, Monday, December 7, 2020.

Jim was a World War II veteran of the US Army. He owned and operated James Brewer Excavating and enjoyed his work so much he considered it a hobby. He went on to form Brewer’s Sand and Gravel, which was the first concrete recycling company in Holland. Jim had a passion for missions, he always had a mission track in hand whether to distribute at Drew’s Campground while inviting everyone to the campground chapel, kindly offering one to the McDonalds employee at the drive through window or endless other times presenting one to someone else in need. Jim took on the responsibility of setting up the worship service at Drew’s Campground chapel (with his families help) and would schedule a pastor in preparation for Sunday morning. He did mission work in Puerto Rico, Rehoboth Missions in New Mexico and at the Holland Rescue Mission. For some relaxation Jim enjoyed walking with his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Alice Brewer, his wife Joan in 2014 and his sisters Elizabeth Bredeway and Mildred Sloothaak.

James is survived by his children, Judy and Keith Wolters of Zeeland, Jerry and Jodi Brewer of Holland, Dan and Shawnda Brewer of Holland and Debra and Sam Solis of Wayland; 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Gord and Ruth Sluiter; sisters-in-law: Joyce Sluiter, Krystal Sluiter and Jo Sluiter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Lighthouse Community Church, 7624 Lake Michigan Drive, Allendale, MI 49401. Rev. Douglas Fauble will be officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm, Thursday, December 10, at the Lighthouse Community Church and one hour prior to the service.

Memorial gifts may be given to: Hospice of Holland, Holland Rescue Mission or Anchor in Home Care. Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel. Please visit www.dykstafuneralhome .com to sign an online registry or to leave a memory.
