Jack K. Hertz, age 96, of Holland went to Heaven on January 3, 2026.

He lived most of his life in Grand Haven and Holland except for a short term when he worked in Hawaii, The Adirondack Mountains, and Florida.

He graduated from Holland High School in 1948. Jack started his work life at Wades Drug Store, and then Hansens Drug Store and Squirt Pak. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in 1951 and 1952 on the front lines working communications.

Jack enjoyed traveling to England, Mexico, and Hawaii and he loved Michigan and traveled all over the state in his motor home. Jack enjoyed reading, history, living on Lake Michigan, nature, hiking, his Reo car, good restaurants, and great music and concerts.

He attended Christ Community Church in Spring Lake and Christ Memorial Church where he currently attended.

Jack loved life and people and liked to walk with his dog, especially downtown. He loved Dachshund dogs. Jack was a great person to all.

He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Dena (Bos) Hertz, sister Elaine and Dale Boes, brother Ron and Ruth Hertz.

He is survived by his sister Karen and Terry Brink and many nephews and nieces.

Thank you to all the family at Appledorn North where he was currently residing and all the loving care he got.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Dykstra Funeral Homes – Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland. Reverend John Kleinheksel will be officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:30 am – 11:15 am prior to the service. A light lunch will follow the service.
