Life Story / Obituary

Harry Verne Pothoff, age 71 of Holland, passed peacefully in his sleep from this life to Glory with Jesus on Tuesday, September 18, 2019. In life, through sickness and health, Harry fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith to the end. He was indeed a warrior for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Harry was born in Muskegon and graduated from Muskegon High School in 1966. He retired in 2015 from Families Victorious, a biblically based ministry cofounded by him and his wife Norine in 2004. The ministry helped those and their families who struggle with addictions to live free. In prior years Harry worked for JCI in Holland, CMI Dearborn in Whitehall, West Michigan Steel in Muskegon, and served 4 years in the US Air Force. He was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Holland. Harry's work ethic, humor, love and care for people was especially enjoyed by his family, friends and those he served in ministry through FV groups in churches, Ottawa County Jail, Allegan County Jail and 20th Circuit Drug Court.

Harry was preceded in death by his father Richard, brother Richard and sister Jeanne.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Norine of 50 years; children, Greg (Jane) Pothoff, Jennifer (Andrew) Haak, 6 grandchildren who he adored; dearly loved mother, Marie Pothoff; brother, Dan (Rhonda); in-laws, Lloyd & Linda Wallace and Jan Pothoff; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Harry was an amazing husband, father and papa who for the love of his family would've given his life. He will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

Visitation will be Friday, September 20, from 6-8p at Dykstra Funeral Home-Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue. A memorial service will be Saturday, September 21 at 11am (with visitation at 10:30a) at Calvary Christian Reformed Church, 400 Beeline Road, with the Rev. Dr. J.D. Punch officiating. Interment will in Laketon Township Cemetery in Muskegon.
