Gene Allen Dykens, age 77, had a glad reunion in Heaven, joyfully reuniting with his mother and father on Saturday, March 30, 2024.

Gene was born in Holland, MI to William and Janet (Rutgers) Dykens.

He graduated from Holland High School and the General Electric Tool & Die School. After 5 years working at General Electric, Gene owned his own Tool & Die shops in Holland for many years, concluding with Skylark Machine in 2002.

Gene was a member of Christ Memorial Church and Evergreen Commons.

Gene loved being on the family’s 80 acres in the Allegan woods where he had built a small cabin. He enjoyed hunting, cooking hotdogs, creating trails and a shooting range, and could be seen riding his golf cart in the woods. He simply had a passion for the great outdoors.

He was an excellent craftsman and built many things from a “5-star” chicken coop to a beautiful wooden canoe. He devoutly supported his 2 sons’ sports activities, never missing a game.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Luanne, and children: Joel and Jennifer Dykens (Elizabeth, Mary, Seth, Faith, and Timothy) of St. Augustine, Florida and Paul and Elizabeth Dykens (Norman, Grace, and Frida) of Taitung, Tiawan; brothers: James and Ruth Dykens of Holland and Willard and Lois Dykens of Zeeland; sisters: Helen Ver Hulst of Zeeland, Carol Kooiker of Holland, and Bev and Rich Woltman of Holland; Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Open House will take place April 27, 2024 from 2-5pm at Clarewood.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Holland 270 Hoover Blvd. Holland, MI 49423.
