Gary VanDerWal, 58, of Holland, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2005, at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy VanDerWal. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Mark and Peggy VanDerWal of Holland, Shelly and James Gobles of Morrisville, Tenn., Dewey Starrett, Michelle DeJong, Jamie and Jose Figueroa, Matthew Bossardet, and Jennifer and Tom Ross, all of Holland; many grandchildren; and a brother, Leo VanDerWal, of Palm Springs, Calif. A memorial celebration is 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the VFW Post No. 2144, 175 W. Eighth St. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Holland. Arrangements are by Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St.
