Garry Allyn Smeyers, age 78 of Olive Center, MI, passed away peacefully at his home on October 22, 2022.

Garry loved his family and was active in his church and community. He enjoyed camping and spending time with Sharon, his wife of 53 years. He loved spending time outdoors, especially in the northern Michigan woods at their cabin. Garry also found immense joy in spending time in his shop and working on hit-and-miss engines. Garry’s Faith was the foundation of his household and helped lead his children to Christ.

Garry was known for his strong work ethic. He worked 40 years at the Fisher Body General Motors 36th Street Plant. Garry also loved his International Tractors, and after being diagnosed with cancer, assembling tractor puzzles brought him much joy. He was also known for his passion of farming. He is best remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cared deeply for his family.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Cornelia (Connie) Smeyers, and Parents-in-law David and Edith VanderKooi and in-laws Ron Sal, Maris VanderKooi, and Mickey (Martha) VanderKooi. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children Todd and Kim Smeyers of West Olive, Tricia and Edward Kosten of Cumming, Georgia, Marc and Laura Smeyers of Zeeland, Melissa and David Fuglseth of Bettendorf, Iowa; Grandchildren Madeline Smeyers, Natalie Englert (Tyler), Jordyn Smeyers, Brody Smeyers, Briana Kosten, Kaitlyn Kosten, Ashley Kosten, Colin Kosten, Tyler Smeyers, Josiah Smeyers, Micah Smeyers, Mackenzie Fuglseth, Brooklyn Fuglseth, Avery Fuglseth and Willow Fuglseth; siblings Roger and Linda Smeyers, Nancy Sal, Daryl VanderKooi, Bob and Cheryl VanderKooi, Joan and Jay Scholten, Deb and Jerry Bosgraff; several nieces and nephews.
