Eleanor Spreitzer, age 91, of Holland, passed away, Sunday, December 23, 2018. Eleanor was born in Harvey, Illinois, on May 10, 1927, to Emil and Magdalena Salow. After graduating from high school she joined the United States Navy and was commissioned as an Ensign. Mrs. Spreitzer served her country during the Korean war at Great Lakes Naval Base. Following her military service she served as a labor & delivery nurse at William Beaumont and St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. In her retirement in Woodland Park, Colorado, she served as a lioness for 13 years focusing on increasing literacy. Eleanor moved to Holland in 1996 and began volunteering and serving at St. Francis de Sales Church in the home bound & hospital ministries.

Mrs. Spreitzer was preceded in death by her husband John; daughter, Ellen Marie; son, John; brother, Elmer Salow; parents, Emil and Magdalina Salow. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Mary), Bill (Michelle), Phil (Beth); daughter in-law, Michelle Spreitzer; grandchildren, Zachary, Ben, Emily, Krista (David), Bryan, Sean, Caileigh, Mark, John, Dan (Matt), Elise, Luke (Jovana), Erik (Becky), Karl; five great grandchildren, many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws in both the Salow & Spreitzer families.

Visitation is 10-11:45am, Saturday, December 29, at the Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave., Holland, Michigan. A funeral ceremony will follow the visitation at 12:00pm, at the Northwood Chapel. Father Charlie Brown officiating. Interment in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Local V.F.W. Post 2144.
