Douglas Schaedler

Douglas J Schaedler, age 73, of Holland died Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, MI.

Doug enjoyed traveling with his wife Elaine which included many famous golf destinations. Doug and Elaine were in love from the day they met and into those final moments when they held each other close. Second to Elaine was the time he could spend on the golf course with his good friends. Everybody enjoyed being around Doug, he made them laugh. Doug was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Vietnam era and was a part of the Gerald R. Ford Counsel for Boy Scouts of America, a member of Eagle Marsh Golf Club in Jensen Beach, FL, where they lived in the winter, and Macatawa Legends Golf Club in Holland, MI. In the past he was on the board of directors for Metal Flow Corporation. Doug graduated from Michigan State and he bled green and white. He retired from Consumers Energy after 30 years of service. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Ken and Rhea Schaedler, parents-in-law John and Norma Bell, sister-in-law Jane Beck and a brother-in-law Lorain Bell.

He is survived by his wife Elaine of 52 years; sisters and brother: Carol and David Miller of Downers Grove, IL, Laura Schaedler Tecumseh, MI and Phillip Schaedler of Tecumseh, MI; sister-in-laws: Aggie and Bob Lombard of Blissfield, MI and Marcia Bell of Chesterton, IN; brother-in-laws: Sam Bell of Riga, MI, Duane Bell of Stevensville, MT and Roger Beck of Ottawa Lake, MI; 15 nieces and nephews and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 18, 2017 at Beechwood Church, 895 Ottawa Beach Road in Holland. Dr. William Brownson will be officiating.

Visitation will be from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm prior to the service. And immediately following the service Elaine requests your presence at Macatawa Legends Golf Club, 4600 Macatawa Legends Blvd., Holland, MI 49424 for further fellowship and sharing of memories. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Holland, 270 Hoover Blvd., Holland, MI 49423.
