David A. Newton of Holland, MI, formerly of Fairview, IL, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

Born June 25, 1961 to Ronald and Dixie (Shields) Newton of Fairview, IL. Surviving is his mother, sister Ronda Hess, brother Dustin Newton, and nieces Caitlin and Mason.

David was born and raised in western Illinois. He attended Spoon River Valley schools, University of Illinois, Western Illinois University and Sangamon State University. While in college and for many years after David was a member of the McBarker Boys, a country western cover band,

Prior to being called to music ministry, he served as an Architectural Historian with the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. While completing his Master’s Degree in Music Ministry from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, he pastored the Wellington and Stockland Illinois United Methodist Churches. David served as the Minister of Worship Arts at Holland First United Methodist Church.

David enjoyed history, architecture and visiting National Parks. He shared his love for travel leading tours with Newtown Tours.

David served as Music Director, Director, Accompanist and Actor in numerous stage productions in Illinois as well as with the Holland Community Civic Theatre. David was the “Fun” Director for the EC Striders, serving as Activities Coordinator and President.

A memorial service will be 2pm (CST), Sunday (December 12), at Shields Chapel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1pm (CST) until the time of the service. Burial will be at Shields Chapel Cemetery.
