Carolyn Ruth Brinks, age 90, passed away on January 24, 2017 in Leesburg, Florida. Carolyn was born on May 27, 1926 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Rev. Sidney and Harriet (Grilk) Miersma. When she was in second grade they moved to East Saugatuck, Michigan where her father Rev. Sidney Miersma was the minister of the East Saugatuck Chr. Ref. Church from 1933-1947. Carolyn went to Holland Chr. High School and Calvin College and taught elementary school for 5 years.

On June 8, 1949 Carolyn married Justin J. Brinks. They lived in East Saugatuck, MI, Holland, MI, and Waupun, WI where they raised 4 daughters and Carolyn worked as a library aide at Waupun Middle School for 14 years. After retirement they moved to Leesburg, Florida.

Carolyn enjoyed playing the piano and organ, teaching elementary Sunday School, and playing sports - swimming, ping pong, and especially golf.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband Justin J. Brinks, and two sisters Margaret Kneppe and Dorothy Kalkwarf.

Surviving are 4 daughters and their spouses: Sharon and Charles Rescorla of Wayzata, MN, Karen and Arthur Foster of Kentwood, MI, Barbara and Joel Schurman of De Motte, IN, and Tamela and Timothy Buwalda of Maitland, FL; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother: Robert and Jean Miersma of Wauwatosa, WI; sisters-in-law; Jeanette Koops and Doris Brinks of Holland, MI.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 pm, noon, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel, 188 W. 32nd St., Holland. Reverend Doug Fauble will be officiating. Burial will be in East Saugatuck cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Mulder Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.
