Life Story / Obituary
Brett Charles DeMond, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on August 29, 2025 at his home in Fennville, Michigan.
Brett was born to Gary Lee DeMond and Jeannette Marie Johnson on February 29, 1960. Brett grew up in Elkhart, Indiana where he attended Elkhart Memorial High School, graduating in 1978. Brett's career followed alongside his father into the grocery store business for much of his early life. After a decade long hiatus as an over-the-road truck driver and instructor for Schneider International, Brett returned to his roots and owned and operated Lake Vista Market (which many know as DeMond's Supervalu) until his untimely death. Brett's passion resided in serving his community and employees; he was incredibly proud of his business and loved each and every one of the individuals involved in making Lake Vista Market what it is today.
Brett was primarily found in his office hard at work, but when he wasn't, he loved photography, hunting, fishing, being outdoors, camping, cooking out, blasting some tunes, and enjoying the company of his family and friends. Brett spent the last several years finding joy in spending time with his three grandchildren, whom he adored. Brett will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, hardworking nature, generosity, independence, and sarcastic sense of humor.
Brett is preceded in death by his father: Gary Lee DeMond and his best friend: Stacy Coleman. Brett is survived by his mother, Jeannette Marie Roberts, brothers: Craig and Nicholas (Tiwonge) DeMond, former spouses: Carla Stone and Billie DeMond, children: Autumn Van Kirk, Ryan DeMond, and Chelsea Fish (Jacob), and his beloved grandchildren: Malcolm, June, and Opal Fish.
Please join us in celebrating Brett, sharing memories, and paying respect to him on Thursday, September 4 from 2-6pm at Dykstra Funeral Home - Saugatuck Chapel. Come and go as you please - all are welcome.
