Elaine Laarman

Elaine G. (Dekker) Laarman passed away on May 3, 2024, and went to her heavenly home.

Elaine was born in Zeeland on Sept. 2, 1927 to Gerrit and Anna Dekker, the oldest of their 2 daughters. She graduated from Holland High, Class of 1945.

On Sept. 2, 1947 she married Henry J. Laarman. Together they raised their 3 children. Elaine worked many jobs, finally landing at West Ottawa Public Schools in 1961 when the district began. She retired in 1984 as the Athletic Secretary. Henry and Elaine went on to enjoy 11 years of retirement, traveling the country with their 5th wheel trailer, visiting a few foreign countries, and wintering in Florida.

Henry and Elaine were long-time active members of Beechwood Reformed Church. Elaine's hobbies were cross-stitching and knitting, and cards with friends. She was always an avid WO fan and was able to cheer on her children and grandchildren as they competed in several sports. Her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially at the family cottage in Croton. There she was able to enjoy the 4 generations of her family doing many activities, and successfully sharing one bathroom.

Elaine was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Henry in 1995, grandson Travis R. Molter, sister Doris Dekker Bean, and special friend Mose Gebben.

She is survived by her family who will cherish her memory and unconditional love: children Doug & Pat Laarman, Jan & John Boockmeier, and Pam & Curt Bosch; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tom Laarman (Keegan, Kaitlyn), Dave & Paige Laarman (Chase, Bryn), Mandi & Neil Schebor (Lily), Ryan & Kendra Laarman (Elise, Elaina, Ashlyn, Amaya), Misha Dorland (Zuri, Zola), Matt & Crystal Bosch (Eva), Jared & Kourtni Bosch (Carson, Jaxxon, Wesley), and Caleb & Brittany Bosch.

There will be a private family memorial service and burial in Restlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Beechwood Reformed Church, Hospice of Holland, or West Ottawa Athletics.

Special thanks to her Hospice caretakers who provided much comfort to her and her family during the final months of her life, and those at American House who cared for her daily needs with dignity.
